Alcohol Home detox or Residential Detox?

Alcohol Home detox or Residential Detox?

Alcohol Home detox or Residential Detox?

Alcohol Home detox or Residential Detox? I get asked this question a lot. So I will tell you the pros and cons, and you hopefully can make your own mind up. Here are a list of things you might want to know.

Cost – Alcohol Home detox or Residential Detox?

The first major advantage of an alcohol home detox is the cost. Our alcohol home detox program is the most supported in the UK, and has a fixed cost of £1,295 how ever long it takes to treat the client. And that is all you pay. No vat etc, Where as a residential detox starts at £3,295, so already a saving of over £2000+. But is it as good?

Is it as good

A residential detox, and an alcohol home detox are performed in exactly the same way. What I mean by that is. It is the same prescribed medication, and the same length of time it takes to detox a client from alcohol. The only difference is a home detox is all performed over the phone, and through live video on you computer, directly to our nurses, instead of the nurse actually being in the room.

Is it 24 hour care

Yes, our residential rehab centres have 24 hour nursing, and our home detox programs also have 24 hours phone support. What I mean by that is, we always have a nurse on the end of the phone 24 hours a day. BUT, be careful. Our centres have 24 hour nursing, but a lot of centres don’t. They just put a security guard on at night who will call if there is a problem with one of the clients. They will call that 24 hour nursing, but it is not. Do call me for information on this subject.

What is the success rates – Alcohol Home detox or Residential Detox?

This is an interesting question. I can quote what everyone quotes, which is 85%. But I would like to quote you through my own experiences with residential detox, and an alcohol home detox. Since we started alcohol home detoxes over 10 years ago, we see very few fail / relapse. As with a residential detox, depending which rehab centre you go to. Will make a massive difference on your success rate. Again call me on this subject if you would like more information. Some are highly successful, and there are a few which are definitely not.

Summing up

An alcohol home detox is a fabulous way to detox, as you can do it in the comfort of your own home. But there is no rehabilitation / aftercare. So for some people it is quick and easy. But for other with deeper underlying issues, residential would be better. If you are working on a budget, then an alcohol home detox is brilliant. If you can afford a little bit more, then residential is brilliant. If you do not want to do the 12 step program, the an alcohol home detox is great. But if you need some kind of structure to your treatment, then residential is great. It is all down to the individual.

The choice between an alcohol home detox or a residential detox depends on various factors and should be made in consultation with healthcare professionals or addiction specialists. They can assess your specific needs, the severity of your alcohol dependence, any co-occurring conditions, and other individual considerations to determine the most suitable option for you.

Here are some factors to consider when deciding between an alcohol home detox or a residential detox:

  1. Severity of addiction: If you have been consuming alcohol heavily and/or for an extended period, you may be at risk of experiencing severe withdrawal symptoms. In such cases, a residential detox facility with 24/7 medical supervision may be the safer choice to manage potential complications.

  2. Safety concerns: Alcohol withdrawal can be unpredictable, and certain individuals may be at higher risk of complications, such as seizures or delirium tremens. If you have a history of severe withdrawal symptoms, medical conditions, or if you are unsure about your ability to manage withdrawal symptoms independently, a residential detox program can provide the necessary medical support and monitoring.

  3. Support system: Consider the level of support available to you at home. Do you have a stable and supportive environment? Will you have someone available to provide assistance and monitor your progress throughout the detox process? A home detox may be more feasible if you have a strong support system in place and can ensure your safety and well-being.

  4. Co-occurring conditions: If you have co-occurring mental health disorders or medical conditions, a residential detox facility may be better equipped to address both the alcohol detoxification process and the management of these additional factors. They can provide integrated care and ensure that all aspects of your health are appropriately addressed.

  5. Personal preference: Ultimately, the choice between a home detox and a residential detox may also depend on your personal preference and comfort level. Some individuals may prefer the structure and support provided by a residential program, while others may feel more comfortable detoxing in the familiarity of their own home.

It’s important to note that alcohol detoxification can be risky, and professional medical supervision is strongly advised, especially in cases of severe alcohol dependence. Healthcare professionals or addiction specialists can provide a thorough assessment, guide you in making an informed decision, and help you access the most appropriate resources and support for a safe and successful detoxification process.
