I get asked
I get asked a lot what happens when you have a drug or alcohol detox in your rehab centres, and there seems to be some conflicting views. Do not worry, we do NOT lock you up! (It is against the law) Plus, all we wish to do is get you off alcohol or drugs for good. ADUS Healthcare offers alcohol and drug rehab throughout the UK. Alcohol withdrawal syndrome is when drinkers stop heavy drinking. This may trigger life threatening health issues.
When is the best time to get help
The obvious answer is now. But if you want your alcohol or drug detox and rehab to work. now is not always the answer. The reason is this. Unless the client really wants to give up, then you are on a losing wicket from the start. By this I mean. If the client is only going to give up because you have laid down the law, and told them they have too. You really do not have much chance of success.
To give up an addiction to something your body is continually graving for is hard. The client really needs to want to do it. But do not panic. What will happen is, there will come a time when the client does want to stop. That is your window of opportunity. Grab it with both hands. Get the client help now. If you miss this opportunity, then in a few days time the client will suggest they can do it on their own. This is when denial kicks in. You have missed you chance. You will need to wait for the next opportunity. There is also another option.
What is denial
Denial is basically when a client starts to believe they can give up on their own. They do not need help now. They are in control. Where as before denial kicked in, the client was happy to get help as they knew they could not do it on their own. That is basically denial.
Where we can help with denial
Denial is the main problem when trying to help a client give up their addiction. This is where we step in. We are very good at sorting out denial through several methods we use. Always talk to us if you are worried about a loved one. We can sort this out. I always feel it is a bit like when a friends child will not do as he or she is told. But when you step in, they are as good as gold. It is the same as when we step in. It is almost like a massive relief for the client. Call our team now.
Drug and Alcohol Withdrawal – Is it safe
Our drug and alcohol residential rehab and detox centres are safe. An alcohol or drug detox nowadays is very safe, comfortable and successful and our detoxes are available to start the same day in most cases. All that basically happens during a detox period is we replace the alcohol or drug you are addicted to, with medication. This is taken several times a day, expending on the drug or the amount of alcohol you are drinking. We then reduced the medication down over the next few days. This can be anything from 5 to 14 days, depending on the severity of the addiction. The medication is reduced until no more medication is needed.

Residential rehab, also known as inpatient rehab or residential treatment, is a type of addiction treatment program where individuals reside at the treatment facility for a specified period of time. This form of treatment offers a highly structured and supportive environment, removing individuals from the triggers and influences of their daily lives and providing intensive care and support. Here are some key aspects to consider when exploring residential rehab options:
-
Treatment environment: Residential rehab facilities provide a 24/7 structured and supportive environment where individuals can focus solely on their recovery. The treatment environment is designed to be safe, drug-free, and conducive to healing. It offers a break from the everyday stressors and influences that may contribute to addictive behaviours.
-
Comprehensive treatment programs: Residential rehab programs typically offer a wide range of evidence-based therapies and treatment modalities to address the physical, psychological, and emotional aspects of addiction. These may include individual counselling, group therapy, family therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), holistic therapies, experiential therapies, and more. The treatment plan is tailored to the individual’s specific needs and may be adjusted as progress is made.
-
Medical and psychiatric support: Residential rehab programs often have medical professionals and psychiatric staff available to address any medical or mental health needs. This may include medical detoxification, medication management, psychiatric evaluations, and ongoing monitoring of physical and mental health throughout the treatment process.
-
Peer support and community: Residential rehab programs offer the opportunity to connect with peers who are going through similar experiences. This sense of community and support can be valuable in building relationships, sharing insights, and receiving encouragement. Group therapy sessions and support group meetings within the facility help foster this supportive environment.
-
Structured schedule and accountability: Residential rehab programs provide a structured daily schedule that includes therapy sessions, educational workshops, physical activities, and time for self-reflection. This structure helps individuals establish healthy routines and develop skills for managing their time and emotions. It also promotes accountability and responsibility in their recovery journey.
-
Aftercare planning: Effective residential rehab programs incorporate aftercare planning to ensure a smooth transition back to the individual’s everyday life after completing the program. This may involve creating a relapse prevention plan, connecting individuals with outpatient treatment, arranging ongoing therapy or counselling, and providing resources and support for continued recovery.
-
Length of stay: The length of stay in residential rehab can vary depending on the individual’s needs and the program’s recommendation. It can range from a few weeks to several months. Longer stays may be recommended for individuals with more severe addictions, co-occurring mental health disorders, or individuals who require additional time to stabilise and develop necessary coping skills.
-
Location and amenities: Consider the location and amenities of the residential rehab facility. Some individuals prefer a facility closer to home for easier family involvement and support, while others may choose a more distant location for increased privacy and distance from triggers. Take into account the amenities and services offered by the facility, such as recreational activities, access to nature, fitness facilities, or alternative therapies.
-
Insurance coverage and cost: Check with your health insurance provider to determine what portion of the residential rehab program is covered. Residential rehab can be a significant financial investment, so it’s important to inquire about the cost, payment options, and any financial assistance programs available. Some facilities may offer sliding-scale fees or have scholarship programs for those with financial limitations.
-
Accreditation and licensing: Ensure that the residential rehab facility is accredited and licensed by relevant governing bodies. Accreditation ensures that the facility meets certain standards of quality and safety in providing addiction treatment services.
When considering residential rehab, it’s important to reach out to multiple facilities, ask questions, and gather as much information as possible to make an informed decision. Consulting with healthcare professionals, addiction specialists, or seeking
